As a CIT, your teen will assist our camp staff in creating a fun and safe environment for younger campers, all while building skills like teamwork, communication, and responsibility. The CIT program will have a family orientation prior to camp to explain expectations and provide deep dive into all the fun we will have.

The Counselor in Training (CIT) Program is a leadership development opportunity designed specifically for 15-year-olds who are interested in learning what it takes to become a future camp counselor. This program focuses on building responsibility, confidence, teamwork, and foundational leadership skills while providing a behind-the-scenes look at YMCA Day Camp. CITs are registered participants in the program and after registration in Core the camp director will reach out to set up a brief conversation with them. Acceptance into the CIT Program is based on maturity, readiness to lead, and commitment to the expectations of the role. Space is limited, and acceptance is not guaranteed.

Throughout the summer, CITs will:

Learn age-appropriate leadership and job-readiness skills

Assist counselors with activities, transitions, and group management

Model positive behavior and uphold YMCA values at all times

While CITs gain hands-on experience, they are not staff members and are not responsible for direct supervision of campers.

The program fee is $300 for the summer, which covers training, leadership development, supervision, t-shirts, and program materials.
